2K Sports revealed a new trailer for their upcoming NBA 2K13 on Spike TV on Thursday highlighting the game’s much-ballyhooed battle between the one and only Dream Team and the 2012 iteration of Team USA Basketball. The trailer features “Run This Town” as background music, performed by the game’s executive producer Jay-Z and Rihanna.
Watch the trailer:
20 years after the Dream Team stormed through the competition in Barcelona, people have been searching for the next big thing. And while there have been several squads that could have provided a challenge for the originals, the 2012 version of Team USA seems the most poised to give them a run for their money. And that’s with an injury-depleted roster (no Derrick Rose, Dwight Howard, Blake Griffin, Chris Bosh, Dwyane Wade and an apathetic Rajon Rondo).
While the trailer shows off most of the players who would have a dramatic impact on the game, from Chris Paul and Deron Williams taking on Magic Johnson and John Stockton to Kevin Love and Patrick Ewing battling in the post to LeBron James guarding Charles Barkley and Karl Malone to Kevin Durant and Larry Bird shooting the lights to Russell Westbrook and Clyde Drexler trading beautiful drives to the hoop to Carmelo Anthony raising his hand in frustration, the highlight of the battle is Michael Jordan against Kobe Bryant. And as expected, a hypothetical battle like this would come down to the final seconds with Kobe guarding Jordan. Jordan, rocking an off-color Air Jordan VII (for the sneakerheads out there), is able to fight off Kobe and take the last shot before the scene fades to black.
NBA 2K13 will be available Oct. 2 on Xbox 360, Playstation 3 and PC.
