Rihanna will produce and star in Styled To Rock – which is set to launch later this month on Sky Living – and has managed to persuade her friend Katy to join in the fun as the show puts fashion design hopefuls through their paces.
Meanwhile, Rihanna’s co-mentor Nicola Roberts has also roped in her Girls Aloud pal Cheryl Cole to be a guest on the show, on which top designer Henry Holland and stylist Lysa Cooper are also mentors.
Styled To Rock will see Rihanna and Co. searching for the next big thing in fashion design, putting 12 unknown designers through their paces for 10 weeks, at the end of which the winner’s creation will be worn by the We Found Love singer on stage in London.
Cheryl and Katy will join the ranks of Pixie Lott, The Saturdays, Tinchy Stryder, Little Mix, Katy B, Rizzle Kicks, The Scissor Sisters and Katy B, who will also appear as guests setting challenges on the show.
The series’ stellar credentials are rounded off by musician Calvin Harris, who devised the title music for the show and celebrity hairdresser Nicky Clarke, whose style team will create the overall looks for the designers’ to showcase their outfits each week.
A spokesman for the show said: “There’s no room for mistakes – these are very real briefs – no musical artist wants a fashion disaster on their hands in front of merciless photographers and harsh fashion critics.”
Nicola said of Cheryl’s involvement: “I text her to persuade her to come on and she was totally up for it. She loves anything like that and I think the fact it was undiscovered talent and these fresh, young designers, she loves her clothes so it was just a given and she really enjoyed it.”
She added that Rihanna had been a joy to work with, saying: ‘Rihanna couldn’t have been more lovely, she’s a real laugh. We all hit it off and had so much fun.
“She’s truly original. She portrays what she wants to portray through her clothes, and it changes all the time. And that’s something I try to do.”
Styled To Rock kicks off on August 14 at 9pm on Sky Living HD and will air in association with Diet Coke.
